New PhD position on our DFG-funded project: "Generation and Analysis of Synthetic Data for Transport Applications (GASTRA)”

We have a new PhD position on our DFG-funded project: “Generation and Analysis of Synthetic Data for Transport Applications (GASTRA)” with Prof. Tomer Toledo from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. As usual, if you are looking for an exciting PhD on a timely and challenging topic, please consider applying. If you know someone who does, please forward them this email. Thanks!

Project Description

Synthetic data is crucial for planning, design, and operation of transportation systems. Real-world data often contains gaps, noise, and variability due to human behavior. This project will:

– Explore methods for synthetic data generation to capture complex dynamics of transport systems.

– Develop techniques for data imputation, generation, and integration across various data classes.

– Apply synthetic data to train and test transport models, enabling “what-if” scenario predictions.

– Deliver an open-source toolbox for broad use by researchers and practitioners.

– Demonstrate methods in naturalistic driving data and traffic flow prediction use cases.

Requirements

– MSc in transportation engineering, data science, computer science, or related field

– Strong background in transport systems & machine learning models

– Excellent analytical, programming (Python/R), writing & presentation skills

– Fluency in English (German is a plus)

Conditions

-100% TV-L 13 contract
– Equal opportunity employer (applications from women and persons with disabilities are encouraged)
