Cabinet approval of ₹1,789.52 crore for Delhi's Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is a landmark step for safer, smarter, efficient mobility

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has stood by ITS India Forum, supported our work and encouraged us over the years. 🙏
As President, I’m encouraged to see our championed intelligent transport solutions move from policy/conference halls to implementation.
Cabinet approval of ₹1,789.52 crore for Delhi’s Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is a landmark step for safer, smarter, efficient mobility.
Why Delhi needs it: 2025 numbers
🔴 1,617 lives lost in 1,578 fatal crashes, highest in 7 years
🔴 4+ deaths every day
🔴 649 pedestrians killed, 2 in 5 road deaths
🔴 5 roads (Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, GT Karnal Road, Rohtak Road, Mathura Road) = 28% of fatal crashes
📊 ~55/1,000 km road | ~1.8/10,000 vehicles (87.6 lakh) | ~7.5/lakh population
Delhi has fewer deaths per vehicle than the national average, yet fatalities rose for 5 years. Most victims are pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Concentrated, predictable crashes can be prevented.
What ITMS means:
👉 One city, one command centre
👉 Signals that think
👉 No violation goes unseen
👉 Every second saves a life
How it saves lives:
✅ Deadliest roads, never unwatched
✅ Hit-and-run? No more getaways
✅ Fix the spot before the next crash
✅ Certainty beats severity
This is Road Safety 2.0: from policing by presence to policing by systems, and from reacting to crashes to preventing them.
We welcome phased implementation, each phase evaluated before the next. Outcome-based rollout should guide public technology investment.
Having worked on ATMS for National Highways at NHAI and FASTag at IHMCL, I have seen that technology adoption is key to road safety at India’s scale. Delhi’s ITMS can become the blueprint for every Indian city.
But the road ahead is long:
🔹 One nation, one standard
🔹 Vehicles that talk, roads that listen
🔹 AI on duty, 24/7
🔹 Smart systems need skilled hands
ITS India Forum will continue working with government, industry, and academia to reshape the Mobility for Viksit Bharat 2047.
Let’s take this conversation forward at ITS India Congress 2026, 7-8 October, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
